Exactly one month ago, I embarked on a journey to establish a firm that rents out digital signage (electronic outdoor billboards) to customers(firms, individuals, tourists, public sector, small businesses). Our digital signage can be rented starting from just 15 seconds, offering a unique opportunity in Japan's blue ocean. Link for more information on what we do.

  • About the market : The market size of digital signage advertising in 2023 is 80.1billion yen, and is forecasted to 139.6 billion yen by 2027.

We provide monthly updates for those interested in our progress inspired by Dan Porter as he emphasized the importance of regular updates. I've adopted this practice. 

What we aimed to achieve in the past month 

  1. Increase understanding of the market ✅

  2. Create a list of potential locations and develop metrics to rank them ✅

  3. Decide on a prototype and begin development ✅

  4. Create a simple website explaining our services✅

  5. Decide on a company name✅

  6. Finish business plan 

  7. Initiate the incorporation process with a goal to be incorporated by July 20th ✅

What you can expect next month

  7. Seek and complete raising investment from Friends&Family and have enough capital for starting cost + 4 months of operation

  11. Add a page on website where customers can confirm service and pay

Details of what we achieved: 

  1. By conducting extensive online research and attending events like DSJ 2024 (Digital Signage Japan 2024), we have deepened our understanding of hardware specifications, specific laws, and current market trends. 

  2. We identified several promising locations and developed a metric system to rank them.

  3. We decided to proceed with a prototype, which involves borrowing a slot and renting it out to individuals to measure interest.

  4. We successfully created a website outlining our mission, target audience, and services. You can visit it at dejikabe.com.

  5. We chose the name "Dejikabe," a blend of "deji" (short for digital) and "kabe" (wall), representing our digital wall concept. 

  6. We have documented our business plan in detail. We are done with every part other than refining revenue calculations in this new market, we will be consulting with industry professionals next week and aim to complete our initial business plan post-prototype.

  7. We have started the incorporation process and we are on track to finalize everything by our target date of July 20th.

Some Questions that has been raised: 

  1. Marketing leads are critical with what we do and whether we add to our team by giving shares or we hire someone.
